Health care, or health, is the prevention, treatment, and disease management and health maintenance through the services offered by the medical, nursing, and allied health professions. Health summarizes all goods and services designed to improve health, including "preventive, curative and palliative interventions, whether directed to individuals or to populations". the provision of regulated services may use the health care system. This can include government organizations such as the UK, the National Health Service or cooperation in the National Health Service and Social Services as in the Joint Care. Before the term "health" has become a popular, English-speakers referred to medicine or to the health sector and talk about treatment and prevention of disease and illness.

In most developed countries and developing countries, many health care is provided to all regardless of their ability to pay. National Health Service was established in 1948 by Clement Atlee's Labor government in Britain, is the world's first universal system of health care provided by the government and paid for from general taxation. Or, the government's compulsory health insurance funded by a nominal cost can be provided, such as in Italy. Medicare is another example in Australia, which was founded in the 1970s by the Labor government, and with the same name Medicare was established in Canada between 1966 and 1984. Universal health contrast with the system, such as health services in the United States or South Africa, although South Africa is one of many countries trying to reform health care. United States is the only wealthy, industrialized nation that does not provide universal health care
